Eurowatt – Wind Farm Security

Temporary Security for The Renewable Energy Sector

Requirements

Eurowatt, a visionary company in the renewable energy sector, was founded on the principle of innovation, sustainability and responsibility and has established itself as a major player in green energy production. In a context where the deployment of wind farms sometimes elicit mixed reactions with local communities, protecting new infrastructure is a crucial concern to ensure functionality and sustainability of projects. Eurowatt faced unexpected challenges related to acts of vandalism from those opposed to their wind farms, these included the wind turbines being subject to arson.

Protecting new wind-farm infrastructure is a crucial concern to ensure functionality and sustainability of energy projects. VPS equipped Eurowatt’s wind farm site with 10 next-generation alarms at the base of each wind turbine, in a remote site on difficult terrain meaning traditional security options were not possible.

Partnership

VPS equipped this sensitive site with 10 next-generation alarms and two remote detectors on the transformer stations. The SaferPod S1, a solution combining cutting-edge technology, allows the detection of any suspicious movement and immediately alerts in case of confirmed intrusion. A SaferPod S1 was installed at the base of each wind turbine.

Securing a wind farm represents a significant challenge, as these sits typically cover extensive areas, making the surveillance and protection of the entire site demanding on traditional security resources. The terrain is often vast and hard to reach, and the remoteness of many of the sites mean that acts of vandalism and theft may not be discovered for some time.

VPS security solutions for the turbines meant that the project could be completed, and the financial investment was secured. The security measures meant that the physical assets were protected as well as the safety of the public.
