Tesco is the leading grocery retailer in the UK with over 4,000 stores in the UK and Ireland. In December 2023, a large store in the North of England contacted the VPS Group urgently due to a serious technical fault with the primary doors at the store. The fault occurred during the Christmas period, a time when the store was extremely busy during opening hours but potentially vulnerable when closed.

The VPS Group work continually throughout the year and were able to respond and install in under 24 hours to secure the site and provide the Tesco team with assurance that their store was under constant monitoring until their doors could be replaced.
The team assessed the site and the risks and recommended two SaferPod S1’s and three additional cameras that would all be monitored by our own Remote Video Receiving Centre (RVRC) while the store was closed. Manned guards can be difficult to procure during Christmas shutdown periods and with a very specific area of the store needing temporary security, the VPS solution was cost effective, quick to install and reliable.
The entire installation and duration of connection was cheaper than using a manned guard and meant multiple viewpoints on the doors. Tesco use VPS Group to protect and secure their vacant stores in a planned manner but in this instance, VPS were able to assist and protect in a reactive and time-sensitive approach.
In other projects with Tesco, VPS have provided a full security solution including concrete barriers, temporary fencing, CCTV towers, intruder alarms and dog units to a number of vacant stores and refurbishment projects.
